How Long Tail Keywords Helps Your Website
Simple keywords get many, many searches each, but they may not do you much good. There are "widget stores" are everywhere, but "discount widget shops, Greeley," are few. So the more specific the search, the more helpful the results.
One long tail keyword may not do much for your site. But when you add up a list of long tail keywords, you can be looking at a huge number of online searches. Embed those long tail keywords in your site content, and those searches will lead to your business.
If you look at this image it might help you visualize what long tail is all about and how it could improve your Greeley SEO.
On the lower right you can see the “tail” of the curve where the lower search volume keywords reside. These keywords get a pretty low amount of search traffic, but they are also low competition phrases. On the left hand side of the graph are the most searched terms, and of course, these are highly competitive. They get a huge amount of traffic, but they're hard to use effectively for high ranking.
Easier to Rank with Long Tail Keywords
In short, it's much easier to rank for “long tail” keywords instead.
But if the search volume per word is low, why bother using them at all? The answer is that research has show that all those small, long tail keywords end up getting much more overall search traffic than the few mega-keywords at the top.
Compare the two types of keywords, and you'll see there's a big advantage to less competitive long tail keywords: They get more traffic in the aggregate.
Of course, this means doing some serious keyword research, so you can identify the long tail searches that will make all the difference.
