Mobile Friendly Design is Essential
Can your visitors view you site on any device they choose? Yes--if your site has mobile friendly design (aka responsive design.)
And if you don't think mobile design is important, know this:
Google now reports that mobile searches currently outnumber desktop searches. And that number is only going to continue to grow.
Here’s the rub for website owners: if your site was designed specifically to look good on the large, horizontal screen of a laptop or desktop , it simply does not fit properly on tablets and phones with their smaller, strongly vertical screens.
Older sites, not designed to be able to adapt size and shape to various devices, look cramped or distorted. They’re hard to read and navigation is difficult. If you’ve had to use your fingers to expand a site on a phone to read it, then you know how terrible a non-responsive can be on your phone.
And we ask you: Was it YOUR site you were trying to look at on your phone? If it was, you are undoubtedly losing potential customers to sites that are mobile ready. A mobile friendly site quickly resizes itself to look good on any device, moving elements to fit the screen as needed.
Graphics and photos sized for a desktop site will often take too long to load on a mobile device. Customers want speed. Are you losing them because your site is too slow?
And here’s another sticking point: Google now rewards mobile friendliness when ranking sites. So if your site is not mobile ready, you may start losing your place in organic search.
Sure, you could have a web designer throw together a separate site just for mobile, and keep your old site as it is.
But for the site owner, having one responsive site is ultimately more cost efficient and effective. And for users, it means they can start visiting your site on a desktop and seamlessly continue the search later on a phone, without having to puzzle out the navigation of the mobile site...which by definition is going look different from your desktop site.
Nearly Everyone Has A Mobile
And if you have it, you use it. Consumers are becoming quite accustomed to checking the internet on their phones for all sorts of buying questions, any time of the day or night. And if your competitors are mobile ready and you're not…you may well be sending your customers their way. Responsive design ensures your visitors can easily navigate your site using any device. And satisfied users lead to increased sales.
Perhaps even more important to your bottom line is that if you were to try and have two separate sites, you’ll have to do everything twice. Pay per click campaigns, routine site maintenance, hosting, editing…why do it twice and have to pay twice, too?
